Why skin preparation matters
Healthy-looking results begin before your appointment. We assess your skin barrier, hydration, sensitivity, active breakouts, pigmentation history and suitability for treatment. Some clients benefit from a preparatory skin treatment and a consistent homecare routine before microneedling.
Inflammation can trigger or worsen pigmentation in susceptible skin. We take additional care when assessing melasma and skin that is prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Microneedling is not the right choice for everyone, and your treatment plan will always reflect that.

Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. Dermalogica uses these Lactobacillus-derived messengers in a specialised formula designed to support skin vitality, hydration, barrier resilience and recovery following advanced treatments. Before treatment, we review your consultation and skin history. During the procedure, treatment depth and technique are chosen for your individual skin and the area being treated. Temporary redness, warmth, tightness and sensitivity are common afterward, and recovery varies.
Aftercare and recovery
You will receive individual aftercare guidance, including when to cleanse, which products to use, and when to resume makeup, exercise and active skincare. We generally recommend avoiding makeup for 48 hours and longer if skin remains red or tender. Sun protection and gentle skin care are essential during recovery.
A consultation and skin assessment are essential. All first-time microneedling clients must begin with a Custom Skin Treatment before booking needling. Certain skin conditions, medications and recent treatments may mean postponing or choosing a different treatment.
